With the onset of the global coronavirus pandemic, countries around the world began issuing commemorative coins and postage stamps to celebrate the role of the medical sector in combating the pandemic. In January 2021, Egypt decided to issue its own commemorative stamp.A commemorative coin to honor medical teams The Ministry of Finance entrusted the Egyptian Mint Authority with the task of issuing 15 million pieces of change bearing the logo of Egypt’s medical teams, divided into 10 million pieces of the «pound» category, and 5 million pieces of the «fifty piaster» category. These pieces came out to us in their beautiful form so that they would reach our fingers in monetary transactions at times, and find a place for them in the collection of one of the enthusiasts at other times to document this bitter era for humanity.

But what caught our attention most recently was the Arab Collector team's accidental discovery of an image on the popular stock photo site Shutterstock bearing the logo that was placed on the coins in an identical manner, to the point that the name of the logo in English, "Medical team," is the literal translation of the word "medical teams.".

Of course, the site is a commercial site for selling images belonging to designers and photographers, and there is nothing wrong with buying those images and using them commercially. However, this does not prevent these images from being sold many times to different people and organizations, meaning that it will not be a unique design. Is it appropriate for Egypt to put up a design that can be reused without considering that it is a design for a currency?

It is worth noting that the designer is from Pakistan and not an Egyptian named Hasanin Shafeeq, which prompted us to wonder if the Egyptian Mint Authority has really exhausted all its ideas in creating a purely Egyptian design that expresses the Egyptian medical teams to the point that it buys a picture and turns it into the face of the currency?

The purpose of this news is simply to draw the attention of those in charge of minting Egyptian currency to the need for Egypt to maintain its leading position among Arab countries in the field of minting coins, and to maintain the selection of designs that resemble Egyptian reality and are taken from Egyptian designers and artists.
