Modern Coins
King Farouk's World Coin Collection
What is the value of the world's currencies to King Farouk in our current era?
2 billion and 870 million Egyptian pounds
(US$160 million)
This is the figure by which an American magazine estimated the value of the collection of American coins, which was part of the comprehensive collection of world coins owned by King Farouk!
As is well known, the king was fond of collecting coins, stamps, decorations, medals, books, weapons, jewelry, carpets, crystal, and precious antiques… There was also a specialized staff attached to the royal palace to preserve and arrange these collections – and I was fortunate enough to get to know one of the ladies who worked in preserving the royal stamp collection at the beginning of my passion for hobbies more than 20 years ago – but if this huge number represents only American coins, how much would all these collections be worth today?!

It is worth noting that groups World Currencies The stamps and crystal were all sold at the famous Qubba Palace auctions in 1954 at very low prices, as the Egyptian government decided to expedite the auction and insist on holding it in Egypt and not in Britain or the United States of America, for fear that these countries would object to the terms of the auction (the State Council had explained to the government that these collections were considered the personal property of King Farouk, and therefore he could have obtained an urgent international ruling to stop the auction until the case was decided - which would have caused great international embarrassment to the new government).

The former king explained in his press interviews at the time his intention to donate the stamp collection to the King Fouad Postal Museum and the coin collection to the King Farouk Coin Museum (under construction) to be owned by the Egyptian people… Whether this is true or not, we do not know, as we have not received any information about this museum, but we have presented this statement here to uphold the truth.

Finally, it is important to mention that King Farouk’s collection is considered one of the “impossible” collections at the present time, meaning that even if all the resources were available to one person or body, they would never be able to form the same collection due to its complete fragmentation among amateurs and international museums. For more information about the Farouk coin collection, you can download the book.
