A “treasure trove” of Abbasid dinars found in Egypt

The Egyptian-Russian mission found a “treasure” of gold dinars dating back to the Abbasid era, at a site known as ”Deir al-Banat” in Fayoum Governorate.

The Egyptian-Russian mission found 28 gold dinars and 5 small pieces of dinars, all dating back to the Abbasid era. They were placed inside a linen wrapping, which was tied with a clay ring bearing unclear symbols.

This archaeological discovery includes 16 dinars and 5 parts of gold dinars from the era of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Muqtadir Billah, 10 dinars from the era of Caliph Al-Radi Billah, and 2 dinars from the era of Caliph Al-Mu'tasim Billah.
