Patriarchs of the Coptic Orthodox Church

The Egyptian Mint recently issued a set of medals featuring the patriarchs of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt. January 2021
The edition consists of a set of three medals inside a red velvet box for three patriarchs, and the explanation is as follows:
First medal
1- Commemorating the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of the passing of Saint Pope Cyril VI, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, 116, bearing on the front the face of His Holiness and on the back a model of the Great St. Mark Cathedral in Abbassia.


Second medal
2- Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the enthronement of the late Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, the 117th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. The medal bears a model of His Holiness and on the back a model of the Papal Headquarters building on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its establishment.


Third medal
3- The model of the Rock of Love bears the image of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, the 118th Pope. In the background is a model of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital.


The Egyptian Mint Authority has kindly issued this medal as a contribution from it and the state to the celebrations of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt on several major occasions this year. The weight of each medal on display is: 132 grams - diameter: 61 mm and thickness: 5 mm. .
It was agreed to issue only 300 sets initially. The number of these medals will be increased to a maximum of 1000 sets depending on market needs and demand during this year.


All the medals were agreed upon to bear the names of the patriarchs in Coptic, and on the reverse of each medal is a verse or saying attributed to one of their patron saints. The medals are made of white nickel with a thick 800-grade silver plating. I am honored to have received one of the first 300 sets minted.
