The armadillo, also known as the armored animal, is the last surviving member of its family, the Xenarthra stagulata. This million-year-old creature gets its name from the hard plates covering its body. Armadillos are most commonly found in Central and South America. They have been able to protect themselves from predators for millennia by curling into a solid ball of their armor and hiding among thorny bushes. Despite their powerful claws, they are generally docile.
