Sudan introduces a 1000 pound note
1000 pound note
The Central Bank of Sudan announced the issuance of a 1000 Sudanese pound banknote, in accordance with Article 6/A of the Central Bank of Sudan Act of 2002 and pursuant to the powers, responsibilities, and jurisdiction of the Central Bank to protect the national currency, stabilize its exchange rate, and work towards achieving economic stability.
According to the official Sudanese news agency, the bank announced in a statement on Monday the issuance of the new 1,000 Sudanese pound banknote, along with its specifications and security features. The statement specified that the new banknote measures 160 mm in length and 74 mm in width. It also detailed the new banknote's design, which features a falcon with legs, a watermark, and the number (1000) inscribed on it. Additionally, the banknote incorporates an image of a hibiscus flower when tilted at a 90-degree angle.

The front of the banknote also features an image of a grain silo with the number 1000 inscribed in the upper left and lower right corners, and the serial number located in the upper right and lower left corners. The front has a movable security strip, and the textured surface of the banknote includes the phrase "Central Bank of Sudan" in addition to the inscription "1000." The side of the banknote includes an image of farmers, a picture of Jebel Marra and the Taka Mountains, and a millet grove.

A source close to the situation stated that the new 1,000 Sudanese pound note is expected to be released into circulation in banks in the coming period. Information indicates that this new currency was printed some time ago, but the Central Bank of Sudan decided at that time to postpone its release. The rising cost of government salaries and the continued subsidization of strategic goods put pressure on the transitional government, leading it to resort to borrowing from the banking system and printing money to cover the budget deficit. The printing presses producing the new currency are operating at full capacity according to international quality standards, a source of pride for Sudan's advanced business practices.
