New measures for banknotes
On December 15, 2020, De La Rue announced the development of a new security technology for banknotes, which was being used for the first time on newly issued banknotes from the Qatar Central Bank. The new technology, dubbed Nexus, is an embedded strip designed for use in mid- to high-denomination issues. It is 18 mm wide, integrated into the printing material during the manufacturing process, and features a full-length window.
The company states: “It offers a very large space filled with vibrant colors, dynamic images, and subtle visual effects, and is available in three colors: blue, red, and purple.”
The company said this allows for a combination of safety and maximum durability, and De La Rue claims its unique manufacturing process provides an extremely wide strip that is fully integrated into the substrate and extremely flat.
It amplifies the trend towards larger, more eye-catching features and is touted as the first of the next generation of features and effects, with Nexus being promoted as a “gradual shift in embedded security and micro-optical features.”.
