Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait affirmed the Egyptian government's commitment to maximizing the role of the treasury and currency in supporting national objectives. He stated that this will be achieved through the issuance of new commemorative coins to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, as well as the bicentenary of the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, which enabled scholars to decipher ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.
The minister added that we are continuing to promote national awareness by maximizing the role of the Treasury and the Mint in documenting pioneering historical events that affirm the value and greatness of Egypt's rich history of achievements in various fields, as well as major development projects that are shaping history. These new initiatives represent an extension of our cultural heritage.

He explained that the authority had prepared 21 proposed designs for commemorative coins to be issued marking the 200th anniversary of the decipherment of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, and 35 proposed designs for commemorative coins to be issued marking the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. The Cabinet recently approved one design for each of the two items, to be produced for the benefit of the public treasury and the coinage.


Climate pioneers scrambled for climate summit coins
The Treasury and the Mint were awarded an international certificate of excellence for their work in Climate Summit The world rushed to acquire commemorative “COP 27” coins. The supply was almost exhausted, proving that this was a major event in the fight against climate change.
The Ministry of Public Treasury and the Mint participated in an exhibition at the Ministry of Finance pavilion during the COP27 Climate Summit, hosted by Egypt from November 6 to 18, 2022. This exhibition showcased Egypt's rich heritage, including commemorative medals, coins, and medallions. Copper plaques were also featured.
