Climate Summit Commemorative Coins
To commemorate Egypt's hosting of the 2022 UN Climate Summit, the Treasury and the Mint Department of the Ministry of Finance issued a commemorative silver coin with a face value of 100 Egyptian pounds. It is currently being sold at the Ministry's pavilion in the Green Zone in Cairo for 750 Egyptian pounds.
The Cabinet decided to issue a commemorative, non-circulating silver coin of 100 Egyptian pounds to celebrate Egypt's hosting of the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Only 3,000 of these coins were minted specifically for this commemorative, non-circulating coin, and they will not be minted again. Each coin weighs approximately 30 grams of pure silver.

Major General Hossam Khader, head of the Treasury and Mint Authority, explained that it remains unclear whether the authority will issue more of these commemorative coins. He added that no decision has yet been made, especially since the coins are still available in stores.
On Monday morning (November 7, 2022), the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27) began at the leadership level in an attempt to find solutions to the problems facing planet Earth.


The number of commemorative coins minted to mark the climate summit has been increased to 5,000 pieces.
On November 16, 2022, the Cabinet approved a draft resolution authorizing the Ministry of Finance to mint additional quantities of the commemorative currency specified in Prime Minister’s Resolution No. 65 of 2022.
The decision stipulated increasing the number of commemorative non-circulating coins of the silver category (one hundred) pounds on the occasion of Egypt hosting the United Nations Climate Summit in November 2022 by (2000) pieces, so that the total number of issued issues would be (5000) pieces.
