Commemorative postage stamp marking the 70th anniversary of Police Day
The National Postal Authority issued a commemorative postage stamp to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Police Day, which falls on January 25th of each year. This day commemorates the Battle of Ismailia, in which fifty martyrs were killed and eighty brave Egyptian policemen were wounded at the hands of the British occupation.
Dr. Sherif Farouk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Postal Authority, stated that Police Day represents one of the chapters of the national struggle and a historical occasion that continues to inspire pride and honor every year for the brave policemen of the nation who sacrifice their lives to achieve security and stability. Therefore, the National Postal Authority takes the initiative every year to participate in the celebration of Police Day by issuing a commemorative postage stamp to document this important event in the history of the nation.
Dr. Sherif Farouk added that commemorative stamps document the history of nations throughout the ages; therefore, the Egyptian Post is always keen to issue commemorative stamps on important events and occasions to immortalize and document those events.
It is worth noting that the stamp size (4 cm by 5 cm) is multi-colored and its value is 10 pounds.
