Cairo, the capital of culture in the Islamic world

A postage stamp commemorating Cairo's selection as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World

The National Postal Authority issued a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of the selection of Cairo as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2022. This selection came as a result of Cairo’s distinction with its ancient history, rich and unique heritage and diverse architectural arts.

Dr. Sherif Farouk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Postal Authority, said: “Cairo is one of the oldest and most prestigious Arab capitals, and represents a point of cultural convergence between the cultures of the world. It is also an open-air museum of world heritage.” He pointed out that the selection of “Cairo” as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2022 is a great achievement that embodies the success of the Egyptian state in preserving Egyptian heritage and promoting its value. Therefore, the National Postal Authority took the initiative to issue a commemorative postage stamp to document this important event in the history of the nation.

Dr. Sherif Farouk added that commemorative stamps are a means of cultural communication between different countries and peoples of the world, and they document the history of nations throughout the ages. Therefore, the National Postal Authority is always keen to issue commemorative stamps on important events and occasions to immortalize and document those events.

It is worth noting that the stamp size (5 cm by 6 cm) is secure, multi-colored, and worth 10 pounds. It is equipped with QR code technology to create a rich interactive experience for the owners of these stamps, enabling them to acquire the necessary knowledge about this occasion in an innovative and attractive way.
