A new fifty-pound banknote
Quoted from Central Bank of Sudan
The Central Bank of Sudan announced the introduction of a new fifty-pound banknote in the coming period, based on the bank’s powers and competencies contained in the Central Bank of Sudan Act of 2002 and its subsequent amendments, pursuant to the provisions of Article 6/A and Article 3/25 of the Act, and within the framework of the bank’s responsibilities to protect the national currency, achieve the stability of its exchange rate, and help achieve economic stability.
The Central Bank confirmed that through its monitoring, it became clear that large quantities of fifty-pound notes of unknown origin and not conforming to technical specifications were circulating; this confirms the leakage of counterfeit currency into circulation, which led to a clear increase in liquidity and caused, along with other factors, a clear runaway inflation and directly affected the daily lives of citizens. .
The Central Bank indicated that commercial banks and their branches continue to receive fifty-pound notes from the public, deposit them, and store them in their accounts, enabling them to use their balances through various payment methods.
The Central Bank confirmed that for citizens who do not have bank accounts, commercial banks will facilitate the process of opening accounts for them to enable them to deposit their fifty-pound notes and other denominations to benefit from other banking services, including electronic payment methods.
The bank will later announce a date for stopping the use of the old fifty-pound note in circulation and considering it a non-legal currency.
