Commemorative coins celebrating 30 years since the opening of the Ajman Museum
The Central Bank of the UAE, in cooperation with the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, announced the issuance of commemorative silver coins to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Ajman Museum.
Through the issuance of these commemorative coins, the two parties seek to highlight the historical role played by His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, and his interest in preserving and caring for the heritage, in addition to highlighting the heritage and civilization of the United Arab Emirates, and the vital role played by the Ajman Museum, which is a treasure trove of precious Emirati treasures, containing heritage artifacts that indicate the country’s rich history.
1000 coins
The Central Bank will issue 1,000 silver coins, each weighing 40 grams. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the Union and Ruler of the Emirate of Ajman, along with his name in Arabic and English, and the date of issue in the Gregorian year 2021 and the Hijri year 1443. The reverse of the coin features an image of the Ajman Museum, along with the museum's name and the name of the Central Bank of the UAE in Arabic and English.
All coins issued will be handed over to the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, and therefore will not be available for sale at the Central Bank headquarters and its branches. Sales outlets will be located in the Heritage District area of Ajman.
Architectural heritage
Regarding this new issue, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Department of Tourism Development in Ajman, said: These commemorative coins came as a tribute to His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ajman, and his initiatives keen on caring for Emirati heritage, which extended to include all aspects related to heritage, whether architectural, popular, cultural or literary.
It is worth noting that the Ajman Museum is the main museum in the emirate and dates back to the 18th century. It was the ruler's residence until 1970, then it was converted into a police station until 1979 before becoming a museum in later years.
