Paper design experiments
The most interesting thing about this collection of paper design experiments is that there are two designs in the five Arab dinar denomination, one dated 1958 and the other 1959… Is there any information about the value of the Arab dinar? Was the plan to make it equal to the Egyptian pound?
These banknotes were designed at the beginning of the union agreement between Egypt and Syria. There was a move towards a unified currency between the two countries under the umbrella of what was called the Central Bank of the United Arab Republic. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, this ambitious project, which could have been the foundation for a unified Arab currency, was never completed. These banknotes are extremely rare. They were sold for astronomical sums, exceeding £100,000, about two years ago, yet the state has not taken any action to acquire them. These banknotes are considered a treasure trove, embodying the strongest era of the Arab alliance between Egypt and Syria.
