What was the issue of Egyptian currency during the period of World War I?
The American magazine Noummatist published The Numismatist In its October 1919 issue, an article titled "An Egyptian Issue from the War Period" featured a 5-millime coin issued by Sultan Hussein Kamel in 1916. The coin's description indicated that the obverse bore the name of Sultan Hussein Kamel and the dates 1916 CE, 1335 AH, and 1333 AH, corresponding to the year of his accession to the throne in Egypt, 1914 CE. The reverse displayed the words "five millimes" in both English and Arabic. Traces of grease, used with the minting dies during the production of Sultan Hussein Kamel's nickel coins, are visible in the image.
