British Pound 2017

One of the most important coins minted for circulation this year is the new British pound, which the Royal Mint described as the most secure coin in the world. The 12-sided coin, easily distinguishable by touch, bears the fifth profile of Queen Elizabeth II. It is one of the most complex coins in its design, containing many features that make it impossible to counterfeit. The coin was minted using bimetallic technology and has a watermark on the front showing, at different viewing angles, the pound sterling symbol ( ) and the number 1. It also contains microscopic inscriptions near the outer rim. On one side, the words "One pound" are written, and on the other side, the date of issue, 2017, is placed. The coin's sides contain alternating serrations that are easily distinguishable. The Royal Mint stated that a high-tech security feature has been incorporated into the coin, which has not yet been disclosed, to protect the coin from future counterfeiting. The coin is decorated with a completely new design that reflects the history of the United Kingdom. It comes in different dimensions than the currently circulating circular currency; it is thinner, lighter, and has a diameter of 23.43 mm, which is larger than the current currency.
