World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
The National Postal Authority issues a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), which has been celebrated annually since 1969 on May 17th of each year, the day that coincides with the founding of the International Telecommunication Union and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of information and communication technologies to the advancement of the information society and bridging the digital divide in order to move towards smart and sustainable development of the country in all areas, with a particular focus on how technological progress will help accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and thus achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated the crucial role of information and communication technology in enabling the continuation of work electronically during lockdown periods, which has led to increased reliance on information technology in various aspects of life, especially in light of the state’s digital transformation system, making communication technology and the information society a lifeline and cornerstone in facing difficult times.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day represents an opportunity for Egyptian society to continue pushing for digital transformation by promoting national strategies related to the development of information and communication technologies and smart policies to encourage investments, cooperation and partnerships.
Design philosophy
It relied on the use of the shape of a communications tower, and at its top end were two sets of wireless communication frequencies, which came in red to attract the viewer's attention and arouse his interest. In the background of the communications tower came the shape of the globe in a large size, as if it contained communication frequencies, and a precise electronic information network appeared on it covering the entire body of the globe to indicate the control of communication technology over the entire world, and then to emphasize that the process of digital transformation has become an inevitable necessity. .
The computer code 010101 was placed in a circular shape surrounding the Earth to emphasize the benefit of the Earth's inhabitants from the capabilities and applications of computers or smartphones. .
A small horizontal plane depicting a group of buildings and houses was used to represent the applications of communications in the information society. It was extended across the width of the stamp and positioned horizontally at the bottom of the design to provide stability and support. The logo of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was also included, along with the acronym for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).
