The UAE and symbolic encryption stamps
To celebrate the 50th National Day of the United Arab Emirates, Emirates Post Group (EPG) said it has become the first in the region to issue non-fungible token tokens, also known as crypto stamps.
This new generation of stamps will be unveiled on December 2 (National Day) and will feature four distinctive stamps coinciding with the nation's Golden Jubilee celebrations. These innovative stamps contain a digital twin and will be sold as digital collectibles linked to their physical counterparts. Philatelic enthusiasts will be able to collect, exchange, and trade these NFT stamps, which promote the story and landmarks of the United Arab Emirates.
Abdullah Mohammed Al Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post Group, said: “In line with Emirates Post Group’s objective to transform into a more digitally focused company, we are proud to announce the launch of the region’s first NFT stamp, which utilizes blockchain technology. By introducing tradable NFT stamps, we are bridging the gap between traditional stamps and the world of cryptocurrency.“
The four stamps
Each of the four NFT stamps features a distinctive design centered around the national theme of the United Arab Emirates. The first is a premium edition containing one gram of pure gold and titled "Golden Jubilee 2021.".
The second stamp is called “Spirit of the Union – 1971”, and symbolizes the founding of the nation by its founding fathers.
The third stamp is “Year of the Fiftieth – 2021”.
The fourth theme is “Projects of the Fifty – 2071”, which represents the future vision of the United Arab Emirates.
How to buy NFT stamps
Buyers will only be able to see the digital design associated with the physical seal after scanning the QR code printed on the front of the card. The seal contains an encrypted NFC chip that can be locked for verification using any smartphone equipped with an NFC reader.
Each seal contains a unique code hidden behind the card, which can be unlocked by scanning the QR code to activate the peer on the blockchain. Users who already have a digital wallet can connect it to the NFT or add the digital twin as a collectible set.
