Modern Coins
Ten piastres of Sultan Hussein
10 piastres of Sultan Hussein, obtained by one of the Australian soldiers who received their training in Egypt in 1917 and who was perhaps one of the few survivors of the Battle of Gallipoli. The soldier (named Claude) kept the front as it was while he wiped the back completely and then began to re-engrave it in the form of a medal as a memento to his mother in his homeland. This type of art of re-engraving coins has its fans all over the world, especially America, France and Australia, as it spread during wars and the Great Depression.
