Competition to design a stamp for the 50th National Day

In honor and recognition of the enduring legacy of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may God rest his soul – Oman Post has announced a competition to design a commemorative stamp set to celebrate the 50th Glorious National Day. Until July 24, 2020, participants can submit their artwork, which should focus on eight different aspects of the Sultanate's development and progress over the past half-century. The selected artworks will be featured in a special edition to be released on November 18, 2020.

For 50 years, the late Founding Father dedicated his life to laying the solid foundations for the prosperity and development of the Sultanate and its noble people. Through this competition, Oman Post aims to celebrate the enduring achievements of the Sultanate under his wise leadership, achievements that contributed to creating a vibrant and dynamic business environment and sound policies, all based on a solid and sustainable infrastructure.

Commenting on this, Abdulmalik Al Balushi, CEO of Oman Post, said: “The late Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may God rest his soul – laid the seeds of the blessed renaissance that has continued over the past 50 years and was based on an ambitious vision for the growth and development of the economy. Today we are reaping its fruits towards a renewed renaissance, growth and prosperity under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – may God protect and preserve him.“.

Al-Balushi added: “The 50th National Day will be upon us and will hold a special place in celebrating the enduring achievements of Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may God rest his soul. We launched this competition to give participants the opportunity to embody the prosperity and development achieved since the beginning of the blessed Renaissance era through the design of commemorative stamps that will be available to everyone. We have chosen a number of themes that reflect the Sultanate’s development journey in the social, economic, and life aspects, to remind us all of our tangible progress and the bright future we aspire to achieve under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – may God protect and preserve him.“.

The company has allocated a cash prize of 300 Omani Riyals for each selected artwork. Artists are invited to submit up to 10 pieces using any technique, including hand-drawn art, digital art, photography, or mixed media. Submitted works must be original and reflect one of eight different themes: Sustainable Development in Oman; Solidarity, Tolerance, and Human Harmony in Oman; Development of the Health Sector; Women and Development in Oman; The Advancement of Education; Security and Safety; Oman: An Oasis of Peace; and Youth in Oman.
