It is a unique era in every respect. They were slaves who ruled Egypt and the Levant, saved the lands of Islam from the greatest danger they had faced since the Wars of Apostasy, and restored the Abbasid Caliphate in Cairo.
The name Mamluk State or Mamluk Sultanate is a relatively recent historical designation created by contemporary historians. This state was known by different names during its time.
Contemporary Arabic references to the era of the Bahri Mamluks called this state «the State of the Turks» or «the State of the Turks» or «the Turkish State»
A Mamluk is a slave who was captured and whose parents were not slaves, while a Qinn is a slave who was owned along with his parents. A Mamluk is a slave who is bought and sold. The term soon acquired a specific technical meaning in Islamic history.
The Mamluk Sultanate, also known as Mamluk Egypt or the Mamluk Empire, was a state that ruled Egypt, the Levant, and the Hejaz.
It was ruled by a military caste of mamluks headed by the sultan. The Abbasid caliphs were the nominal sovereigns.
The sultanate was established with the overthrow of the Ayyubid dynasty in Egypt in 1250 and was conquered by the Ottoman Empire.
