He was one of the Mamluks of Sultan al-Salih Najm al-Din Ayyub and rose to prominence during al-Salih&#039;s wars in Syria against those who rebelled against his rule. Later, during the reign of his predecessor Turan Shah, he succeeded in capturing King Louis IX of France at Mansoura in 647 AH\/1249 CE. When Turan Shah attempted to eliminate the Mamluks, Baybars managed to kill him. After the victory at the Battle of Ain Jalut in 658 AH\/1260 CE against the Mongol army, he eliminated al-Muzaffar Qutuz and assumed rule over Egypt and Syria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>\u201cThe jinn\u201d raises the value of \u201cAbu Jamalin\u201d in the rare Egyptian currency market<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">An inexplicable race among collectors of old coins, whose goal is to obtain \u00abAbu Gamalein,\u00bb the first Egyptian paper pound, issued in January 1899.
