The Postal Sector of the Ministry of Communications in Kuwait issued commemorative stamps for the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (House of Islamic Antiquities) on February 25, 2023. This set of commemorative stamps was issued in cooperation with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters and the Kuwait Philatelic and Numismatic Society. The stamps commemorate major national holidays and the 40th anniversary of the founding of Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah, which has played a significant role in enriching knowledge and culture in the fields of Islamic archaeology, science, and art over the past four decades.<\/p>\n

The Al-Sabah Collection, owned by the late Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Sheikha Hessa Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah (General Supervisor of the Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah), is one of the most comprehensive and distinguished private art collections from the Islamic world. The Islamic world is home to a rich variety of materials used in art production, and the Al-Sabah Collection encompasses a diverse range of Islamic artworks.<\/p>\n

The idea behind the design of Dr. Zainab Taher Al-Ibrahim's postage stamp series, a member of the Kuwaiti Philatelic and Numismatic Society, was to explore the diversity of Kuwaiti cultural heritage through detailed, realistic depictions of eleven museum pieces from the Al-Sabah Archaeological Collection. In doing so, we hoped to highlight an aspect of this rich heritage with an artistic and philosophical dimension.<\/p>\n

The mailing list also includes a postage stamp with a portrait of the founder of the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah (1948-2020). May God have mercy on him.<\/p>\n

This set of stamps was produced by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, which also funded its design and printing. It was printed with the assistance of the Carter Security Printing House in the French Republic, and 3,000 copies were produced.<\/p>\n
