Friday, July 7, 1933 (corresponding to Rabi' al-Awwal 14, 1352 AH), a large crowd gathered outside the magnificent arched entrance of the Palace Hotel in Jerusalem, also known at the time as the Waqf Hotel. The crowd had come from all over Palestine and the Arab world to attend the opening of the first Arab Exhibition in Palestine. The exhibition showcased agricultural and industrial developments taking place in the Arab world and displayed products manufactured throughout the region. It was the first of two Arab exhibitions to be held in Mandatory Jerusalem; the second opened in April 1934.

A company was established to manage the exhibition under the name of the Arab Exhibition Company Limited in 1932 with a capital of 5,000 Palestinian pounds for five thousand shares, but the amount paid was slightly less than two thousand pounds, so a public subscription was made in which the company invited every patriot in Palestine to participate in the company’s shares to the extent that his financial circumstances allowed him, hoping that all national bodies would work to make the exhibition a success.

Arab countries including Egypt, Iraq, Hejaz, Najd, and Transjordan participated in the exhibition, which was supported by the Syrian government. Instead of incurring a loss in the second exhibition for this reason, it recorded in its carryover account for the following year a net profit of 2 pounds and 310 milliemes.

On March 8, the board of directors of the exhibition held a meeting at the Arab Bank in Jerusalem to conclude a special resolution to dissolve the exhibition company and liquidate it voluntarily and distribute the share allowances to its owners.
