The National Postal Authority issues a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), which has been celebrated annually since 1969 on May 17th of each year, the day that coincides with the founding of the International Telecommunication Union and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.<\/span><\/div>\n
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of information and communication technologies to the advancement of the information society and bridging the digital divide in order to move towards smart and sustainable development of the country in all areas, with a particular focus on how technological progress will help accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and thus achieve Egypt\u2019s Vision 2030.<\/span><\/div>\n
The COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated the crucial role of information and communication technology in enabling the continuation of work electronically during lockdown periods, which has led to increased reliance on information technology in various aspects of life, especially in light of the state\u2019s digital transformation system, making communication technology and the information society a lifeline and cornerstone in facing difficult times.<\/span><\/div>\n
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day represents an opportunity for Egyptian society to continue pushing for digital transformation by promoting national strategies related to the development of information and communication technologies and smart policies to encourage investments, cooperation and partnerships.<\/span><\/div>\n
