His Majesty King George V has been collecting postage stamps since his teenage years and has never lost his enthusiasm for the hobby. Today, his collection fills more than 100 albums, and he continues to add new pieces to it constantly. In fact, a few years ago, His Majesty wrote to a friend, describing stamp collecting as "one of the greatest pleasures of my life."“

The Prince of Wales also found great pleasure in postage stamps and even participated once in the London Stamp Exhibition with his collection from Liberia and France, in addition to his honorary presidency of the Royal Philatelic Society.

His Majesty King George, Duke of Edinburgh, was another royal collector, and Alfonso VIII, the former King of Spain, had an excellent collection specializing in Spanish Empire stamps. In addition, most members of the Belgian royal family are stamp collectors, including the King and Queen, but the most enthusiastic about the hobby is their son, Prince Leopold, Duke of Brabant. There is also King Alexander, King of Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia (or as it is called, Yugoslavia).

King of Egypt - Fuad I - was another great collector, and his collection filled many albums. His Majesty appointed an Englishman to coordinate his collection and other mailing interests.

His Majesty King Vajiraphodeh, the late King of Siam, was also a fan of postage stamps.

The Crown Prince of Sweden is another collector and is a patron of the Royal Swedish Philatelic Society. He also visited the recent London Postal Exhibition. Even Japan has a number of royal collectors, including His Royal Highness Prince Hiroyasu.

The hobby also receives patronage from queens and princesses, most notably the queens of Italy, Belgium, and Romania, and Her Highness Princess Marie and Viscount Lacelle, who, although not a hobbyist herself, has always been interested in the hobby of her late great father.

A charming article published in 1932 showcases some kings and princes interested in stamp collecting, including King Fuad I, the king of hobbies and the hobby of kings!
