The method of recording dates on coins varies according to eras and countries, and there are two basic systems that every collector should know:<\/p>\n

    Direct history system:<\/b> This is common in modern currencies (such as Saudi, Egyptian, and other Arab currencies), where the full Hijri date is written (for example, 1354 AH), and here we use the calculation:<\/p>\n

    Ottoman currency system (year of accession):<\/b> Ottoman coins were distinguished by having two dates; Date of the Sultan's accession<\/b> (It is written below) andYear of rule<\/b> (It is written at the top).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To determine the actual date of minting, you must add (year of accession + year of rule - 1).<\/p>\n

    Illustrative example:<\/b> If you find a coin of Sultan Abdul Hamid II with the year of his accession 1293 and the year of his reign 5, then the year of minting is 1293 + 5 \u2013 1 = 1297<\/span>Hijri year, which corresponds to 1880 AD.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n
